Got to get the calamine

I’ve grown to love afrobeat music. When I was a teenager I was fascinated with reggae music. Listening to it I felt it came from a place inside that couldn’t be faked. It was never hard to recognize someone performing reggae who didn’t really get it. Years later Questlove introduced to the music of Fela Kuti. It didn’t take hold instantly but once it did I was screwed. Reggae seemed like the popular kid that everyone was friendly with and afrobeat was his legitimately dangerous step brother. The kid who had the look in his eyes that said “the less you know about me the better”. Popularity doesn’t hold my interest very well but danger draws me in like the aftermath of a car accident… at least when it comes to music. So here is Questlove and The Roots absolutely owning the groove from “Mr Grammarticologylisationalism is the Boss” by Fela Anikulapo Kuti.

Chickity Choco

So I’m a couple of weeks into a summer tour with Incubus. Things are rolling smooth and a ton of folks are coming out to the shows. I’m always impressed when people come out to concerts these days because everyone is hurtin’ on the pecuniary side. But nonetheless, the shows have been banging and it’s been beautiful raging on stage with the guys. On an unrelated note: The video below blew my mind into little pieces when I was about 14 years old. The messed up thing is that Windows still looks that way.
